S.O.S. skincare recommendations for oily skin (&breakouts)

Due to drastic weather changes and hormone imbalance my oily skin has got a little crazy lately. Cleansing well and exfoliating is not enough sometimes. Hormone imbalances can make the skin produce way too much oil than it can handle. Here are some skincare products I rely on currently (and it helps):

The Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque is a green colored clay mask that smells like toothpaste and dries quickly.

Not so cheap samples

Mini-haul!
I found some great, but not cheap samples on my trip to Macau.

I think Clinique makes some good sunscreens, so I immediately picked this up when I saw it. It has chemical sunscreen filters plus moisture plus antioxidants.
I also really like Exuviance as a brand. Their products are quite effective.

Vitamin C+E does not need to be expensive! People often talk about saving up for the Skinceuticals serum but there are many cheaper alternatives.

Anti-aging: Tout Vert Lu Pharma Essence Select Gel [Updated]

I really like Japanese skin care, because many brands are generally free of irritants like fragrance, coloring etc. It is much more "straight-forward" than many Korean or European products. Tout Vert pays a lot of attention to ingredients that are known to be effective, rather than making many claims and fancy packaging or naming products after fruits/ vegetables.

What has been going through my mind lately...

Hello!

So, the first thing is. What's up with the grey hair? Why do young people dye their hair grey? Isn't it a sign of aging? And why are they wearing dark lipstick? That makes everyone look 20 years older ...
And those ugly tattoo necklaces. I was wearing it when I was 11. That was in the nineties... Ugh... After a few months of wearing various tattoo necklaces the eleven-year old me came to the conclusion that it's fugly and made the wise decision to not follow trends anymore.

While researching skincare I stumbled upon the TOKYO LOVE SOAP which I used back in the day in Germany and then years later in China. Now they have a premium version packed with more amazing ingredients to get rid of dark spots and discolorations. That's exactly what I need as I have some uneven patches on my skin since months and nothing that I tried helped. I need to get that asap. Products that contain EGF can be terribly expensive, but this one is affordable - for me at least. I know there are people that will buy a bar of soap in the supermarket for less than a Euro and still complain about the value.

Acne - External causes

There are many people that just use a random plain bar of soap or even shoer gel to wash their face, yet they have great skin. But how did acne happen in first place?
Somehow the "barrier" must have been damaged. Of course it all starts with hormones and genetics. But it is easy to make it worse by using harsh products over a longer period of time. Even good skin could get damaged. So what do I mean by "harsh products"? Examples:

A lot of drugstore products claiming to get rid of acne actually just make it worse.

2-3 step skincare routine + best makeup removal

This is the routine I follow when I:
- want to quickly remove makeup and hydrate my skin
- I do not have time
- my skin feels sensitive and I do not want to use exfoliants or overwhelm it with a bunch of products

Healing acne from inside

This is part one of me sharing some experiences, trial and error, products etc. in fighting acne.
When talking about acne, the term "hormonal" is often used to describe adult acne. But it is a fact that acne always has something to do with hormones. And it has internal as well as external reasons.

Review: It's Skin - secret solution clear patch

This is basically a spot patch for blemishes. Each box comes with 12 clear patches.

My two cents on sunscreens

On my old blog I used to write about sunscreens a lot, since I think they are an important part of skincare in general. At least that is how I started caring for my skin since 2010 (when I finally had the money and interest for it).
I used to like those Biore alcohol-sunscreens, as they are easily absorbed into the skin and wear well under makeup. But when I went on a vacation at the beach, it happened: I was constantly reapplying my sunscreen yet I got freckles and discolorations like crazy. I thought: "What the hell? This is SPF 50!" My skin was getting worse and worse. Dehydration, large pores, brown spots. I still kept on using other alcohol sunscreens until I came across some reviews of Biore Aqua Rich Watery Essence. It is still often recommended and used by many bloggers. But why?(Maybe they are not as sensitive as me...)

Fragrance in skincare

I used to be the kind of person to avoid fragrance at all costs. Back in the day I used a lot of Japanese skincare - and they have many brands that generally produce only fragrance-free products.

Clogged Pores - Blackheads or sebaceous filaments???

Pore strips usually tear out just a part of the blackhead. Or is it not a blackhead? If it's not black but your pores are clogged with it, what is that?

Teas I buy again and again - in China

These are the teas I consume almost daily: roses, chrysanthemum, black tea, green tea, jasmine tea.
They are commonly available here in China.

And here are some special ones:
Mother's wort + kidney tea

MINISO (Dollarstore) Beauty Haul!

Miniso has lots of cheap products which are all by their own brand. They often copy popular brands' packaging and products.
Here is what I got this time:

Reapplying sunscreen? Easy...

If you are wearing makeup in the summer heat and it is melting... you probably don't just need to touch up the makeup but also your sunscreen.
Powders with SPF are great, but it can get cakey.
Since last year I have been using Korean sunscreen sprays. It's so easy to use, I really think they invented this for lazy people.
Here is the one I currently use and it's completely clear (no white flakes). It is like spraying water on your face.

Anti-acne tea?

A while ago I found this tea on Taobao, that is supposed to decrease your acne if you drink it every day.

Exfoliants in skincare , part 1

Hello, everyone! I thought I might share which exfoliants I currently use in my skincare and how they work.

Left to right: Roc Retinol Correxion Eye Cream, 5% Azelaic Acid (Chinese brand), 2% Salicylic Acid (Chinese Brand,
Alpha Hydrox Oil-Free Treatment, Alpha Hydrox Silk Wrap Body Lotion

Food in Shenzhen - Cantoneeeese

That's just some stuff that we eat here usually. Dark green veggies are always a nice addition to get some more vitamins. These are cooked with some fat pork meat together, as traditionally (or let's say in former times) Cantonese restaurants used pork fat instead of oil to fry vegetables. Of course, nowadays using animal oil isn't popular anymore. because it is considered to be a bit unhealthy.
The chick peas are dried and salted - it is just a snack (it was for free).
One of the most tasty things is this tofu that contains some meat. It is usually served hot and still boiling inside the bowl.
Lastly we have some fried fish cakes. Tasty, but a little too over-processed for me.

#1 Most uncomfortable pants

Since one year I've been seeing sooo many girls/women wear this type of tight uncomfortable black skinny pants. It's not really a jeans, not a leggings, But definetely not what a "jeggings" is supposed to be.

Even though they come in many sizes they are ALWAYS to tight, no matter what body shape...
Luckily since the weather is super hot now there are definitely less people wearing it. But in general, with the climate here, I can only wear tight long pants in December-February. Even then it's actually too humid, so it feels uncomfortable.
I guess real Shenzhen people won't be bothered too much by the humidity.
But let me just tell you one more thing. There is nothing flattering about this pants. It's so tight and the material is rough and everything but flexible, it will most likely make your butt look more flat and "squeezed". I can't image the person on this photo sitting down with those pants. Ouch!
